I am close to buying a 4310 but I am not sure which mmm. Is the 7iron suppose to be heavy duty, is it made by JD, does any one have any experience with it?

I have the 72" mmm mounted on my 4410. It is constructed of 7 gauge steel and is a stamped out unit. Very strong, and I believe the heaviest built in the industry. I find that it gives me a good cut once you have it properly adjusted for heigth and level, but you have to accept some scalping with a mower that large. I would strongly recommend the 72" mmm for the 4310 as that will give you a small bit of over lap just a bit wider than the rear tires. I use mine to cut pasture land that I have CAREFULLY walked and removed ALL obstacles. Even then, here in TN, the ground seems to grow a new crop of rocks each year. This mower is NOT a brush hog but can cut very heavy grass and brush as long as you are careful and reasonable about it. If you are going to use this machine to cut a lawn, I would highly recommend the turf tires as the R-4's don't do too bad but still leave marks and tear up t he lawn in turns. (the tighter the turn, the more the damage) If you are cutting rough unkept land, get the MX-5 rotary cutter or similar attatchment. ....

The reason for the heavier deck is to work in Florida sand. The decks there are getting sand blasted everyday they are used. The thicker metal will allow them to be used for a longer period before getting holes. You could say that they are a HD deck for that part. I don't know if they use better spindle assemblies or a heavier belt. ....

One other point I meant to mention about the 7 Iron decks is that not only are they 100% 7 gauge stamped out steel but these one piece feature means not welds to break or crack. These decks will stand up to a lot of abuse and not bend or crack. ....
